Swinger couples and jealousy are common topics to come up together. People who aren’t in the Lifestyle themselves, often wonder how anyone could not get jealous knowing their partner is sleeping with another. Even experienced swinger couples face issues with jealousy. The key to this, as with most things is communication.

Whether you are in a monogamous relationship or a non-monogamous swinger relationship, most couples will experience jealousy at some point. Jealousy is quite a complex emotion to understand. In fact, jealousy isn’t really an emotion itself, but more of an umbrella term of emotions. What usually happens is we say, “that makes me jealous,” but in reality, the jealousy is coming from anger or fear. It creates a fight or flight kind of response and we can end up lashing out at our partners for bringing those feelings up within us.
We are all human, swinger or not, and so even experienced swinger couples often still run into the ugly monster that is jealousy. It can be hard when you know you want your partner to be happy and to enjoy their experiences in swinging with others, but that voice in the back of your head is maybe feeding into your insecurities about it.
Communication is Key
When you go to your partner about your insecurities and are vulnerable, it’s much easier for your partner to react lovingly. However, if you engage the conversation with insults and accusations, your partner will often feel attacked and can lash out too. In situations like this, you never get to the core of the actual issue.
Communication is always the key. You need to understand if this fear you have of perhaps your partner leaving you for the other person is an actual concrete fear or if it’s a fear you have created out of insecurity. Sometimes we can stop ourselves from actually sitting with this feeling of jealousy or anger to see where it stems. The fear of something is usually a lot worse than the thing itself.
